The Joys of Camping in Yellowstone National Park
If you are looking for a holiday destination where wildlife roams
free and you can relax in the peaceful environment, then the
Yellowstone National Park is the perfect location. You can choose
between a winter or summer lodge, a luxury hotel, or a camping
resort.
Camping is one of the most economical choices when it comes to
vacationing, and you can save a great deal of money for other
vacation expenses. Camping in Yellowstone National Park is even
more fulfilling because you can get more in touch with nature.
Campgrounds
There are a total of 12 campgrounds located in the Yellowstone
National Park. Seven of the campgrounds are operated by the
National Park Service at Indian Creek, Mammoth Norris, Slough
Creek, Pebble Creek, Lewis Lake, and Tower Fall. The sites at all
of these campgrounds are available on a limited basis; therefore,
first-come, first-serve is the basic rule.
Other campgrounds include:
Fishing Bridge RV Park
The Fishing Bridge campground is located near the Yellowstone
Lake, with full RV hook-ups and other camping amenities. It is
designed for hard-sided campers only, with various length
restrictions. There are coin laundry facilities, electricity, water, a
camp store, pay showers, sewer hook-ups, and a sanitary dump
station. There are also sightseeing tours available for all guests.
Madison Campground
Located 14 miles east of the Western entrance of Yellowstone
National Park, the Madison Campground is perfect for camping in
Yellowstone National Park. It is only 16 miles north of the Old
Faithful geyser, if you are looking for sight seeing attractions. The
facility offers sanitary dump stations, but there are no utility
hookups or showers. This is a good camping spot if you are not
looking for many amenities, but are only wanting to be in the
wilderness.
Canyon Campground
The Canyon Campground is close to the Grand Canyon of the
Yellowstone Park, which is near the center of the park. There is a
campground store, a restaurant, pay showers, coin laundry
facilities, and a sanitary dump station. However, there are no
utility hook-ups on site.
Camping Regulations
It is not permitted to camp in a vehicle overnight, in picnic areas,
picnic grounds, or any other area that is not considered a
campground. There are also no overflow camping areas, so you
need to plan in advance. However, there are campgrounds
available in communities outside of the park.
In addition, camping is limited to 14 days per group, between June
15th and September 15th. During the rest of the year, 30 days is
the maximum limit. On the other hand, there are no stay
restrictions at the Fishing Bridge RV Park. The required check-out
time for all campgrounds within the park is 10:00AM.
To have the ability to camp in Yellowstone is a wonderful
experience. Each visitor in the park needs to have the opportunity
to hear the wildlife and the flowing waters. Therefore, there are
specific “quiet hours” set into place from 8:00PM until 8:00AM. At
the Fishing Bridge RV Park the quiet hours are between 10:00PM
and 7:00AM. During the quiet hours, generators and other noise
disturbances are not allowed. Generators are only allowed in six
campgrounds, including the Fishing Bridge RV Park.
Group Camping
Sites that are available for group camping are Grant, Bridge Bay,
and Madison campgrounds. It is only allowed from late May until
the end of the peak season for all large organized groups, as long
as they have a designated leader if it is a youth group. The fees
for group camping vary from $35 to $60 per night, depending on
the campground and the size of the group.
When camping in Yellowstone National Park, you will have a
wonderful experience being more in touch with the natural
surroundings. Remember that food and other odors attract bears,
such as utensils, coolers, toiletries, and trash bags. They need to
be in tent trailers or tents if they are not being used.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp
A trek to Everest remains a dream for many, and achieving the summit of the highest mountain in the world will always be the ultimate prize for experienced mountaineers. Standing at 8,848 metres above sea level, Everest defeated attempts from climbers for over thirty years until Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay made it to the top in 1953. Since then, several thousand people have made it to the summit; but the skills required, the danger of the climb and the considerable expense of an Everest expedition put a trip to the top of the mountain out of the reach of most people. Treks to Everest Base Camp, however, continue to grow in popularity, giving travellers to this region an unforgettable glimpse of the world’s highest mountain.
Everest Base Camp
Contrary to popular perception, there are in fact two Everest Base Camps that Everest expeditions can set off from: the South camp in Nepal (5,360 metres) and the North camp in Tibet (5,208 metres). At both of them, mountaineers preparing to attempt the summit stay to acclimatise to the altitude and wait for favourable weather conditions before leaving to make an attempt on the summit. The South camp tends to be the more commonly used by Everest expeditions for practical reasons – the southern ridge is the easier and safer route to the summit, and climbing from the Tibetan side requires a special visa from China.
To see and visit one of these Everest Base Camps is to step onto the stage of mountaineering history – the world’s greatest climbers have passed through the camps at one point or another in search of their moment of glory.
Regional Highlights
As well as the awe inspiring views of Everest itself and the historical significance of seeing Everest Base Camp, treks to this region typically take in several other summits and sights. Most treks to Everest Base Camp will follow the classic route from Lukla, through pretty Sherpa villages and dramatic high mountain scenery, whilst other Everest Base Camp treks will follow a longer route to Everest, giving the opportunity to retrace the steps of the great explorers all the way from Jiri to the Base Camp itself. Other trekking routes in this region can also include a visit to the spectacular Gokyo Lakes, a series of high altitude lakes that offer breathtaking views out over the region.
Almost all Everest Base Camp treks in Nepal will include an ascent of nearby Kala Pattar (5,545 metres), which offers great views down over the base camp and up to Everest itself.
Experience and Equipment Required
Trekking to Everest Base Camp does not require mountaineering experience. The walking though is challenging due to the terrain and the altitude. Organised trips should give visitors time to acclimatise to the altitude. Although altitude sickness is unpredictable and affects different people in different ways, simple precautions can minimise the chance of experiencing this. Previous experience of high level trekking is not a requirement for an Everest Base Camp trek, just a good general level of fitness and a spirit of adventure.
Tour operators will be able to provide a more complete list of the equipment required for individual treks, but a good waterproof jacket, clothes that will provide sufficient warmth at high altitudes, sunglasses and good quality walking boots will be a bare minimum. The cost of a trek varies from company to company but, due to the distances covered in a typical trek, and the need to gradually acclimatise to the altitude, a complete trip will take around three weeks and usually costs between £1,900 and £2,500, including flights.
Everest Base Camp has been drawing in walkers and climbers for years, and it remains an essential destination for the trekking enthusiast – spectacular scenery, challenging walking and a once in a lifetime chance to stand beside the highest mountain in the world.

Camping And Picnic Combined – Great Advantages
Have you ever thought camping would be a wonderful way to spend time with your family, your friends or you special significant other? If you are looking for something fun to do, then try camping.
Camping is often referred as a recreational activity at affordable prices.
As nice as this is having a picnic along with it can enhance the experience. when you really think about it, the two “would be” different ideas are a perfect combination.
Reasons behind combining camping and picnics
- Camping and picnics seem to be designed for one another.
It is often said that when you go camping, you’ll head to a state park or public campground in which you will bring food. Many of these places do offer picnic areas and campfire grounds to which you can use to cook food with. Some places may already have picnic tables that are near your campsite. If not, you could still use a blanket setting it up for the picnic.

Picnics you can have just about anywhere… in your backyard or at the local park. While the local park can be traditional by nature, sometimes you can find parks with onsite camping available.

- Picnics not just for eating
Picnics are more than just about eating when you are with your family, friends or significant other. Depending on your location, you can do some boating, swimming, perhaps some fishing and maybe even some hiking. These are things you also do for camping.
Some campgrounds and some state park sites offer a swimming area such as a pool, lake or other bodies of water. They also offer great trails to go hiking on.
Using these as a guide to fun, you can make up your own fun by thinking of ways to play games. These include hide and seek if everyone agrees or perhaps telling ghost stories.
Reason behind the separation of events
When people think of picnic, they often times think it will last for a couple of hours, maybe a bit more but there is no need to rush off. Picnics with family and couples can last for many hours thus likening the idea of camping out. If you use a state park to do your picnic, take advantage of camping as a fun way to “extend” the picnic time. Add it to your already fun day.
Even if you are a camping newbie, getting the supplies you need to do a two-day campout is not that hard and is often times affordable.
So as you can see, two different words have meaning of the same things in common. Camping and picnics just go hand in hand. Should you have some free time or are looking toward vacation, look into combining your love of food and picnics into an outstanding camping adventure. There are no limits to the amount of fun you can have with whatever is available.
Should it be a hot day when you decide to have a picnic, remember that the public state park do have lakes that most of the time allows swimmers. Sometimes though it is only available for campers, so it would be a wise investment to do some camping and get away from the stress of every day life.

How to Find an Aquatic Sports Summer Camp
What’s the best way for your child to be safe, have fun and beat the summer heat? Sign them up for a water sports or aquatic camp!
Summertime and aquatic activities go hand-in-hand. According to Theresa Torrone, a volunteer for the American Camp Association (ACA), “Water sports camps are one of the fastest growing segments of the specialty camp field within the summer camp industry as a whole. There’s a water sports camp for kids and teens everywhere.”
Also known as aquatics sports camps, water sports camps generally offer surfing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, boogie boarding, body surfing, parasailing, swimming, inner-tubing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boating and related activities.
What if your child doesn’t have previous experience with these activities? Torrone says not to worry. “Most water sports camps accept kids from every aquatic background, so your child can participate and enjoy the activities safely and have fun no matter what.”
To cover your bets, however, Torrone says to “always check with the camp director first just to be sure.”
Sometimes parents think a water sports camp is out of the question if they don’t live close to the ocean. But Torrone says your kids can still get the full benefit of attending a water sports camp no matter where you live.
“Some of the premier water sports camps in the country use lakes, reservoirs and pools as their primary activity base. The ocean is fun, but it’s definitely not essential to enjoying a premier aquatic camp experience.
“For example, jet skiing, wakeboarding and fishing camps often take place at lakes or rivers. They don’t require a beach or ocean for kids to have fun.”
When asked about surfing camps, Torrone said, “I suppose if you want to learn to surf, or attend a surf camp, you’ll need to find a water sports camp at the beach. But even if you don’t live by the beach, you can go to an overnight surf camp. There are a number of them across the country.”
To find a list of water sports camps, Torrone suggests contacting the American Camp ACA. “The ACA’s a great resource. Whether you’re looking for a surf camp, jet skiing camp, wakeboarding camp, or just a swimming camp, the ACA can provide you with a list of accredited programs all over the country.”
Torrone says you can also look on the Internet. “If you want a surf camp, SurfCampSearch.com, a free online surf camp directory. If you want an all around aquatic sports camp experience, including surfing, try Aloha Beach Camp in Los Angeles. And last I checked, ussportscamps.com and localsportscamps.com also have comprehensive listings of water sports camps everywhere so you can find a great program.”
Whatever camp you choose, it’s always wise to involve your child in the decision-making process. “If your child is involved in picking the water sports camp they’ll eventually attend,” she said, “they’re going to end up loving it that much more.”
